Do you ever feel lost in your life?
From the moment you wake up to the moment you go to bed, you find yourself constantly busy—juggling work, family, and endless responsibilities. Then, when you finally have a moment of stillness, you feel exhausted, unheard, and lost in the chaos.
If any of this resonates, then it’s time to nourish your soul.
In my recent article on walking, I spoke about how it serves as nourishment for the soul. But that got me thinking—what other ways can we do the same?
Read on to discover five powerful ways to reconnect with yourself and replenish your inner strength.
1. Walking
Walking isn’t just exercise—it’s therapy for the soul.
It gets you out into nature.
It helps you clear your mind and order your thoughts.
It allows you to see the beauty in the world around you—things you might otherwise miss.
I often spot foxes on my morning walks, robins in the afternoons, and feel the changing seasons in a way I never did before.
Walking is free, accessible, and deeply rejuvenating. It’s the simplest way to feel connected, present, and alive.
2. Cooking
Cooking isn’t just about preparing food—it’s a creative process that engages all the senses.
You experiment with flavors and cultures.
You add your own twist to recipes.
You create something nourishing for yourself and those you love.
But what truly makes cooking good for the soul?
It has just the right level of focus to put you in a meditative state.
As you cook, you engage your senses—the rich aromas, the sounds of sizzling, the textures beneath your fingers—while your mind is free to wander, relax, and just be.
And at the end of it all? You get to enjoy a delicious meal.
3. Meditation
Meditation has moved from monasteries to the mainstream, and for good reason—it works.
Forget the stereotypical image of a monk chanting in solitude. Meditation is simply the act of quieting the mind.
The easiest way to start? Breathing meditation.
Find a quiet space and sit comfortably.
Focus on your breath. Inhale—think “in.” Exhale—think “out.”
When your mind wanders (and it will), gently bring your focus back.
Even just a few minutes a day can help you feel more grounded, clear-headed, and at peace.
4. Reading
Not just any reading—reading for the pure joy of it.
Think of that one book you’ve read over and over—the one that feels like an old friend. The one that, no matter how many times you read it, always draws you in.
Reading has the power to transport us, inspire us, and nourish our minds in a way few things can.
Let yourself get lost in a book, and when you return, you’ll feel refreshed, recharged, and renewed.
5. Quality Time With Loved Ones
Last, but far from least—spending time with the people who matter most.
This isn’t about rushed conversations or obligatory family gatherings. It’s about genuine, uninterrupted connection.
For me, this means a braai (barbecue) with my close family. For you, it might mean game night, deep conversation, or a simple meal together.
Being around those we love replenishes us in ways we don’t even realize—until we’ve been without it for too long.
So this week, make the time. You’ll be glad you did.
