No One Has Life Figured Out

A friend once said something that stuck with me:

“Everyone you meet is living life for the first time.”

Think about that for a second.

There are no rehearsals.
No second chances at a first try.
No manual that tells us exactly how to do things.

Yet, so often, we expect perfection—from others, from ourselves, from life itself.

But the truth?

We’re all just figuring it out as we go.

The First Time Is Never Perfect

Do you remember the first time you…

Drove a car?
Rode a bike?
Tried a new skill?

Was it perfect? Probably not.

You stalled the car.
You fell off the bike.
You fumbled through the skill.

And that’s normal—because the first time is never flawless.

Yet, despite knowing this, we often hold others to impossible standards.

We judge mistakes harshly.
We criticize instead of offering guidance.
We expect people to just know what they’re doing.

But here’s the reality:

No one has all the answers.

Even the people you look up to? They’re still learning, still making mistakes, still figuring things out—just like you.

Why Judgment Holds Us Back

Imagine watching a child learning to ride a bike.

Would you laugh if they fell?
Would you call them stupid?
Would you tell them to quit?

Of course not.

You’d encourage them.
You’d tell them to get back up.
You’d guide them and help them improve.

So why don’t we do the same for adults?

Instead of helping, we judge.
Instead of guiding, we criticize.
Instead of understanding, we assume the worst.

But here’s the truth:

Every mistake is a lesson.
Every failure is an opportunity.
Every person is still learning—no matter their age.

So why not approach others with patience, empathy, and a willingness to help?

Because in the end, the way you treat people in their weakest moments says far more about you than it does about them.

Choose Empathy Over Judgment

The next time you see someone struggle…

Instead of judging, ask:

How can I help?
What guidance can I offer?
How can I be an example of the right way to do things?

Because if we show others patience, understanding, and encouragement, guess what?

They’ll be more likely to do the same for us.

And when you inevitably stumble (because we all do), you’ll find that people are far more willing to help you back up—instead of kicking you while you’re down.

So remember:

It’s everyone’s first time at life.
Empathize, don’t judge.
Advise, don’t criticize.

And most importantly?

Be the example.

Because when you lead with empathy, you change the world—one person at a time.
